On Thursday 30 July, Thornbury Town Council, Thornbury in Bloom and the BS3 Moth Club welcomed more than 150 people to Mundy Playing Fields for a celebration of the park and all things moth! As part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks week, the event gave adults and children the chance to get ‘up close and personal’ with some of our more elusive and fascinating wild creatures.
Charlie and Willow from the BS3 Moth Club shared more than 30 different species of moths they had discovered overnight in a neighbouring garden on Thornbury High Street. Visitors were able to get a close-up look at these fascinating creatures and find out more about the moths living right on their doorsteps.
There was plenty for younger visitors to get involved with too. Children picked litter were rewarded with a choice of a ‘Caring for Thornbury’ water bottle or tote bag. they made moth masks, took part in nature scavenger hunts and discovered more about the wonderful wildlife found in and around Mundy Playing Fields.
