Mundy Playing Fields
Mundy Playing Fields, Kington Lane, Thornbury, Bristol, BS35 1NA
This large green space was gifted to the Town by the Honourable Mrs Violet Mundy in 1937 and has been valued and enjoyed by residents ever since. Today, it features football pitches, two tennis courts, a pavilion and, an extensive play area that received an £85,000 refurbishment in 2018. The refurbishment introduced a range of new equipment, including swings, climbing structures, trampolines and, a large sandpit. At the top of the field visitors will also find outdoor gym equipment suitable for adults and young people aged 14 and over.
The addition of the Poulterbrook field saw an increased area available for sports use and the planting of several young Oak trees, to help add character to the area for years to come. Recently installed was a picnic area and wild flower patch which helps promote increased biodiversity whilst providing a quiet and peaceful area for a picnic.
During opening hours, there is a public toilet block available with disabled access and baby changing. There is a car park at the far end of the field which provides free parking and during the summer, you may be lucky enough to find an ice cream van! The car park and toilets are usually open between 9am and 8pm in the summer, and shorter hours through the winter. Please check signage on arrival for closing times.
The fields are home each year to Thornbury Carnival, organised by the voluntary Carnival Committee and also the firework display organised by Thornbury Roundtable. Parkrun takes place on a Saturday morning at 9am and is ‘free, forever, for everyone’.
