This large green space was gifted to the Town by the Honourable Mrs Violet Mundy in 1937 and has been valued and enjoyed by residents ever since. Today, it features football pitches, two tennis courts, a pavilion and an extensive play area that received an £85,000 refurbishment in 2018. The refurbishment introduced a range of new equipment, including swings, climbing structures, trampolines and a large sandpit. At the top of the field visitors will also find outdoor gym equipment suitable for adults and young people aged 14 and over.
There are exciting plans to bring waterplay back to the Mundy Playing Fields. More details can be found by clicking here.
The addition to the Mundy playing fields of the Poulterbrook field in 2005 saw an increased area available for sports use and the planting of several young Oak trees, to help add character to the area for years to come. Recently installed was a picnic and BBQ area and wild flower patch which helps promote increased biodiversity whilst providing a quiet and peaceful area for a picnic.
After all that running around, you can find the perfect shady spot in which to relax and enjoy an ice-cold treat from the ice cream van.
We are also pleased to welcome The Thornbury Tuk Tuk to the Mundy Playing Fields. On a trial basis until October 2026, it will be serving barista coffee, iced coffees, milkshakes and a range of other treats on most days during the school holidays and at weekends.
The Mundy Playing Fields are also the venue for the annual firework display organised by Thornbury Round Table. The event takes place each November on the Saturday closest to 5 November. For further details, please visit mythornbury.co.uk.
Parkrun takes place on Saturday mornings at 9:00 am, and Junior Parkrun takes place on Sunday mornings at 9:00 am. Both are free, forever, and for everyone.
