Armed Forces Covenant
Thornbury Town Council is proud to support the Armed Forces Covenant and is committed to upholding its key principles:
- No member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage in the provision of public or commercial services compared with any other citizen.
- In some circumstances, special treatment may be appropriate, particularly for those who have been injured or bereaved as a result of their service.
We recognise and value the contribution that serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and military families make to our community and to the nation.
Thornbury Town Council will seek to uphold the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant by:
Promoting the Armed Forces
- Promoting activities and events that support the Armed Forces through our website, social media channels, and local press.
- Publishing our Covenant commitments on a dedicated section of our website.
- Promoting our status as an Armed Forces-friendly organisation to staff, contractors, suppliers, service users, and the wider community.
Supporting Armed Forces Events
- Supporting Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal, and Remembrance activities.
- Supporting the annual South Gloucestershire Armed Forces Day event through our involvement with the South Gloucestershire Armed Forces Day Committee.
Armed Forces Champion Councillor Gil Gilroy
The Council has appointed an Armed Forces Champion to ensure that the needs of serving personnel, veterans and military families remain visible in Council discussions and decision-making.
