The Mayor of Thornbury Helen Ball was delighted to attend the 200th anniversary dinner celebrating the historic church building of Thornbury United Reformed Church.

The dinner was held at The Swan, recreating the church's first recorded gathering in 1826, when 15 people met there to inaugurate the new church. It was a privilege for the Mayor to be one of just 15 guests taking part in this special commemorative event.

The evening provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the church's rich history, meet members of the congregation and share experiences. Thornbury United Reformed Church continues to play an important role in community life, providing a welcoming venue for many local groups, including Thornbury Town Band rehearsals, concerts and other community activities.

From August until November, the building will temporarily close while major improvements are made to the entrance and ground floor facilities, creating a more accessible and user-friendly space for the whole community.

Thornbury Town Council congratulates everyone at Thornbury United Reformed Church on this remarkable milestone and wishes them every success with the refurbishment project.
