Thornbury's Mayor Helen Ball was delighted to be invited to present Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) awards at a ceremony at The Chantry, Thornbury on the 8th January 2026.
The young people had to successfully complete a skills section, a volunteering challenge and undertake a challenging expedition for their awards. Participants who had achieved the Gold standard will be invited to Buckingham Palace.
Helen said, 'It was lovely to meet the young people, dedicated leaders and proud family and friends.'
Helen shared with everyone that as a young person she had achieved a Gold DofE award, and that it still remains a very proud achievement even after so many years and added, 'We should be very proud of the commitment and drive of these young people, who are our future.'
