Girls’ and women’s cricket is continuing to grow at Rockhampton Cricket Club, with more than 65 players, many from Thornbury, now benefiting from new playing and training equipment purchased with support from a Thornbury Town Council Small Grant.
The £450 grant helped the Rockhampton Ravens purchase four junior English willow bats, junior batting pads, softball training balls and training aids, giving more girls the opportunity to develop their skills and progress into hardball cricket without the cost of equipment becoming a barrier.
More than 40 girls aged seven to 13 now regularly attend the Ravens’ Thursday training sessions, alongside a women’s squad of more than 25 players.
Thornbury Town Council is delighted that the new equipment is helping the club respond to growing demand, providing more opportunities for players to train, play and develop their confidence on the cricket field.
