Thornbury Town Council is inviting passionate and committed members of the local community to step forward and serve as town councillor.

Elected members play a vital role in representing the interests of the community, influencing local policy decisions, and directing funds towards areas of need to drive forward a range of improvements in the local area.

Hannah Bowden the Chief Executive said “This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in our community, ensuring that Thornbury thrives and flourishes.”

Key responsibilities of a town councillor include being an active participant in council meetings and local events, collaborating with other councillors to make informed decisions for the benefit of the community, engaging with local residents to understand their needs and concerns, and advocating for the community on local and, potentially, national issues.

The position also involves overseeing local projects and ensuring responsible management of council funds.

No prior experience is necessary as training and support will be provided to all elected councillors.

In order to be eligible as a Thornbury Town Councillor you must be a British citizen, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union and be 18 years of age or over on the 'relevant date' (i.e. the day on which you are co-opted). Additionally you must be connected to the area, more details can be found in the application form on the 'Councillors' section of this website.

Interested individuals are invited to submit an application by 9am Tuesday 3rd February 2026.

For any questions or an informal discussion about the role please call Hannah Bowden on 01454 412103.
