Thornbury Town Council are very pleased to share that the trial has been a huge success, thanks to the incredible members of community who have been collecting blister packs, whether on their own or on behalf of groups. In just 8 weeks, we collected five full boxes, recycling approximately 37,500 blister packs and preventing them from going to landfill.
The trial has shown there is demand for a blister pack recycling point in Thornbury and a definite need for this type of recycling facility to be made available. Unfortunately, we can’t continue the trial indefinitely because of the costs involved. We appreciate the valuable feedback and evidence we’ve gathered, which will help us take further action on this matter.
Following the completion of the successful trial, the next steps are:
- Contacting local companies and pharmacies to request that they set up recycling points in Thornbury, especially those who already provide this service elsewhere.
- Writing to our local MP to request blister pack recycling funding as part of regular recycling services.
- Looking into the availability of alternative funding sources to potentially provide this temporary service again in the future.
We encourage you to get involved by contacting local businesses or writing to your MP to help make blister pack recycling available widely in our community:
Claire Young: Claire.young.mp@parliament.uk or telephone her on 01454 606852.
To help you get started, there are some templates attached below
In the meantime, here are some alternative places where you can continue recycling:
- Superdrug Pharmacy in Broadmead Superdrug 39/43, BS1 3EU
- Boots (please refer to their website for participating locations and how to recycle): Boots’s Recycling Scheme
- Tesco Extra in Bradley Stoke (drop-off point for specific pharmacy brands): Calpol’s recycling information
The details above are correct at the time of writing. If you are looking to recycle at these sites into the future, please check in advance with them that they are still providing these services.
Thank you again for participating in the trial.
