The Mayor of Thornbury has signed the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of Thornbury Town Council, confirming the Council’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
The Covenant recognises the valuable contribution made by serving personnel, both Regulars and Reservists, as well as veterans and military families, to our country, communities and local businesses.
By signing the Covenant, Thornbury Town Council pledges to uphold its key principles:
- No member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage in accessing public or commercial services compared with any other citizen.
- In certain circumstances, special consideration may be appropriate, particularly for those who are injured or bereaved.
The Town Council will demonstrate its commitment by:
- Promoting awareness and understanding of the Armed Forces community
- Supporting national events such as Armed Forces Day, Reserves Day, the Poppy Appeal and Remembrance activities
- Supporting local initiatives, including the South Gloucestershire Armed Forces Day
- Publicising these commitments through its communications and website, outlining how it will honour them and inviting feedback from the Armed Forces community and residents
